[Picture Australia](http://www.pictureaustralia.org) is an Internet based
service that allows you to search many significant online pictorial
collections at the same time. When you do a search on Picture Australia,
thumbnail images are retrieved from [participating institutions](http://www.pi
ctureaustralia.org/contribute/participants/index.html) on the fly and inserted
into the search results.
Picture Australia provides access to images that cover all aspects of
Australiana:
* Artworks include paintings, drawings, prints and posters of abstract art, fine art and portraits
* Photographs capture people, places and events
* Objects include sculpture, scrimshaw, bark, costume, weapons
* Images may be in black and white or full colour.
This dataset contains metadata from all participating institutions (except for
those from the State Library of Tasmania).

The National Library of Australia operates the [Trove People and
Organisations](http://trove.nla.gov.au/people) zone which allows users to
access information about significant people and organisations (parties) as
well as related biographical and contextual information.
The Trove People and Organisations dataset is based on the Australian Name
Authority File, a unique resource maintained since 1981 by Australian
libraries which contribute their holdings to [Libraries
Australia](http://librariesaustralia.nla.gov.au). The Trove People and
Organisations zone plays an important role in exposing records about parties
and linking to them in libraries and other collecting institutions. The data
also provides links to resources by and about a party and relationships
between parties.
To further enrich the service the Library is collaborating with organisations
that already make available information about people and organisations in
their specific domains and linking to them.
The API to this dataset provides access to 885,000 identities.
