Dunwich Benevolent Asylum was established 13 May 1865 when inmates were first transferred to the Dunwich Quarantine Station from the Benevolent Ward attached to the Brisbane Hospital under the Benevolent Asylum Wards Act of 1861. The Asylum continued to operate until it was officially closed on 30 Sep 1946. It provided for poor people who because of age, accident, infirmity or otherwise were unable to care for themselves. The Index /dataset lists inmates admissions and discharges, deaths and burials. An inmate may have been admitted, discharged and readmitted several times in their lifetime; not all inmates have a death or burial recorded. Inmates could be discharged to Brisbane Hospital or the Reception House.

Hydrographic Charts 1802-2013 |

2018-04-13T05:37:15.053379 |
2022-06-28T23:53:48.060056 |
This series comprises hydrographic charts held at [Queensland State Archives](http://www.archives.qld.gov.au) were prepared by the Harbours and Rivers Department and its successors, as well as the British Admiralty, Royal Navy, Royal Australian Navy and the Australian Hydrographic Service. Initially, hydrographic charts of the [Queensland] coast were published by the British Admiralty, surveys having been undertaken by the Royal Navy. Australia's hydrographic service was subsequently formed on 1 October 1920 as a part of the Royal Australian Navy. The earliest items in this series dating from Flinders' 1802 Chart of Terra Australis, comprise copies of the Admiralty or Royal Navy charts.
Details recorded on hydrographic charts include regular water depth, positions and least depth over all shoals, wrecks, reefs, banks, etc, position of the coastline (HW and LW mark), nature of the bottom, leading lines fixed and sounded, tidal stream measurements and observations, navigation marks, lights and sailing directions, details of wrecks, etc.
While the series provides an historical survey record of the Queensland coast and major rivers and bays, it includes charts current to year 2010, both new charts and resurveys or updates.
In addition to coastal hydrographic charts and charts of bay entrance channels and reach surveys for navigation purposes, the series includes hydrographic survey plans recording improvements or works in progress, for example, dredging, test bores, reclamation, siltation, wharfage or marina proposals. Some land drawings are also included, for example, port land use and facilities.
The charts are loose and while the majority are within A1/B1 size, they vary from small foolscap drawings up to 2A0 dimensions. Original drawings are linen, tracing paper or tracing film while copies are generally photo-sensitive film. |

This series comprises hydrographic charts prepared by the Harbours and Rivers Department and its successors, as well as the British Admiralty, Royal Navy, Royal Australian Navy and the Australian Hydrographic Service.
These charts are held at [Queensland State Archives](https://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/arts/heritage/archives).
Charts are arranged geographically in two chronological sequences.
Charts up to 1987 are arranged in a numerical sequence and charts from 1987 to 2000 are arranged in an alpha-numerical sequence.
These arrangements are listed below under the following headings: numerical sequence commences; alpha-numerical sequence prefix; geographical area.

These files held at [Queensland State Archives](https://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/arts/heritage/archives) record the particulars of travel of nominated/sponsored immigrants who came to Queensland between 1947 and 1976. Each file may include: a nominal roll of assisted passage migrants (passenger list), luggage lists, notes of passenger travel arrangements after arrival, correspondence on payment of rail fares, and welfare officers report on meeting ship. The passenger lists include: name of passenger (nominated immigrants), age, religion, occupation, country / place of origin, name of ship or flight number of aircraft, date of arrival, and name and address of nominator. For the majority of the aircraft files only the passenger list for the flight is included on the file. The files are arranged in chronological order by the date of arrival of the ship or aircraft. While each ship has a separate file for each voyage, the aircraft files include passenger lists for several months or a period of one year. |
